Food Coloring Turmeric (E100i) or curcumin (E100ii), also named E100, is a natural vibrant pigment or color extracted from the root of the turmeric plant Curcuma longa.

The answer is Yes & No. It depends on how It’s processed and the form of the e100, following the three Possibilities.

Halal

  • It is Halal if pure grind turmeric powder or granular. In this case, it is free from haram derivatives or does not cross-contaminate forbidden ingredients.
  • It is Halal if e100 is used as a liquid, and the fatty acids solvents are derived from vegetable fat, such as Soy, Canola, Sunflower, or Flaxseed fat.

Haram

  • If e100 is used as a liquid, and they derive the solvents from Pig fats or Pork derivatives, it is haram.
