Is Chicken Salt Vegan, Gluten Free, Healthy?

Chicken salt is a seasoning blend commonly used on foods such as french fries, popcorn, and chicken. It is made from: Salt, Garlic Powder, Onion Powder, and Other Spices and Flavorings. Despite its name, “chicken salt” is usually vegan and does not contain any chicken products. So, Is chicken salt vegan?

The answer is Yes, it is. Despite the name, chicken salt doesn’t contain any actual chicken or animal derivatives. This means that it is suitable for people following a vegan or vegetarian diet.

However, it’s still possible to come across some brands that don’t meet the requirements of a vegan diet. Recently, while looking for a new brand of chicken salt on Amazon, I found some that contain chicken broth, which includes chicken parts and makes it unsuitable for vegans and vegetarians. The ingredients of this brand are as follows:

  • Salt, Garlic, Paprika, Spices, Chicken Broth, Onion, and Soybean Oil.

As you can see, I bolded the non-vegan ingredients to make it clear that not all ice cream cones are vegan-friendly. Therefore, it’s important to double-check the ingredients label when you want to try a new brand instead of the one you usually buy.

Is Chicken Salt Vegetarian?

The answer is yes, almost. As we already explained, chicken salt is typically free from any chicken parts or derivatives. However, recently I noticed that some brands use chicken broth to give natural flavors to this salt instead of using only spices and flavorings.

Is Chicken Salt Gluten Free?

The majority of brands use gluten-free ingredients that do not contain any gluten. However, we cannot be certain of the facility and cross-contamination during the manufacturing process, which means that it’s important to double-check the ingredients label and check the allergen information to ensure that the product is truly gluten-free.

Is Chicken Salt Healthy?

Salt is necessary for proper bodily function, but excessive intake can lead to health problems like high blood pressure. Garlic and onion contain compounds that may have health benefits, such as antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

Generally, Chicken Salt is safe and healthy in the recommended daily limit of salt, which is around 2,300 mg per day for adults.
