5 Accidentally Vegan Snacks – Harvest Snaps – Doritos – Trader Joe’s, and More

Accidentally vegan snacks are among my favorite grocery store finds. After performing a thorough skim of the ingredients list and I find no animal products listed, I rejoice 🤓.

I call these food items accidentally vegan because even though their ingredients list is free of animal products, the products themselves don’t have a certified vegan symbol or cruelty-free on them.

From savory to sweet, I’ve compiled a small collection of snacks I’ve found that are accidentally vegan.

List of 5 Accidentally Vegan Snacks

Below is a list of 5 vegan-friendly snacks that most grocery stores carry.

Snack #1 – Harvest Snaps

[SORRY, NO IMAGE OF THESE DELICIOUS CRUNCHY SNACKS TODAY ☹️ ]

Number 1 on my list of accidentally vegan snacks is Harvest Snaps, made by Calbee International. Harvest Snaps is a non-GMO pea, bean, and lentil-based snack foods company.

These crunchy and incredibly tasty snacks have a total of nine different flavors. Of the nine, five flavors are vegan and four are vegetarian.

Vegan flavors:

  • Barbecue
  • Tomato Basil
  • Lightly Salted
  • Mango Chile Lime
  • Black Pepper

Flavors that are not vegan (they contain dairy):

  • Caesar
  • Wasabi Ranch
  • White Cheddar
  • Parmesan Roasted Garlic.

Also, if you’re refraining from consuming gluten, you’ll be glad to know that all Harvest Snap products are gluten-free!

Harvest Snaps can be found in most grocery stores’ produce sections or on Amazon.

For a full list of ingredients for each flavor, visit their products page.

Snack #2 – Doritos (Spicy Sweet Chili Flavor)

I had these earlier this month, and they were AMAZING.

They offered the same familiar Doritos crunch, with a different flavor than I was used to. When I ate Doritos back when I wasn’t vegan, I’d usually go for the nacho cheese flavor.

For maximum flavor rush, try these with some salsa or guac! 🤤

Here’s the ingredients list for the Doritos Spicy Sweet Chili Flavor.

Corn, Vegetable Oil (Corn, Canola, and/or Sunflower Oil), Salt, Sugar, Monosodium Glutamate, Fructose, Sodium Diacetate, Soy Sauce (Soybean, Wheat, Salt), Onion Powder, Maltodextrin (Made from Corn), Hydrolyzed Soy Protein, Hydrolyzed Corn Protein, Garlic Powder, Torula Yeast, Malic Acid, Extractives of Paprika, Spices, Caramel Color, Disodium Inosinate, Disodium Guanylate, Dextrose, and Natural Flavor.

These chips also contain wheat and soy ingredients.

You can find these in the chips aisle of your local grocery store or on Amazon. Please be aware that if you’re buying these from Amazon, you’ll likely have to purchase the smaller single-serving sizes. I could not find a regular-sized bag on Amazon, so I just linked the 40 pack 1 oz bags.

Just a heads up!

Snack #3 – Trader Joe’s Hash Browns

Accidentally Vegan Snack #3 – Trader Joe’s Hash Browns

Trader Joe’s, the mecca of vegan snack foods and Turkey-less Stuffed Roast, carries a 10 pack of delicious vegan-friendly hash browns.

These are great cooked in a pan, but if you want to step your game up and go oil-free, I recommend using an air fryer! They’re great for reducing oil consumption, calorie cutting, and easy cooking/cleanup.

Here’s the short ingredients list for the Trader Joe’s Hash Browns:

Potatoes, vegetable oil (soybean or canola), salt, dextrose, citric acid.

Also, these hash browns contain soy. I don’t see it in the ingredients list, but it’s marked on the box 🤷🏻.

Regarding purchasing these, unless there’s some Trader Joe’s black market that I don’t know about, you can only purchase these frozen carbohydrates at Trader Joe’s.

Snack #4 – Snyder’s of Hanover Hot Buffalo Wing Flavored Pretzel Pieces

Snyders of Hanover Hot Buffalo Wing Flavored Pretzel Pieces

This was an accidentally vegan snack that one of my brothers found. Kudos to him for looking out! These pretzel pieces are crunchy, flavorful, and filling.

Their sourdough and garden vegetable flavors are also vegan.

You can find these in the chip aisle of your local grocery store or on Amazon.

Snack #5 – Trader Joe’s Organic Roasted Seaweed with Sea Salt

[SORRY, NO IMAGE FOR THESE EITHER 🙁 IF I REMEMBER WHEN I HAVE THESE IN MY KITCHEN, I’LL SNAP A PIC AND COME BACK HERE TO POST IT!]

Trader Joe’s strikes again.

These small but mighty seaweed snacks are a great way to get iodine into your body. Iodine deficiency is something vegans and vegetarians should watch out for, so it’d be a good idea to rotate these into your snack foods.

The ingredients list for Trader Joe’s Organic Roasted Seaweed with Sea Salt is comprised of a whopping three ingredients:

  • Organic seaweed
  • Organic high-oleic sunflower oil
  • Sea salt

You can find these in your local Trader Joe’s chips aisle.

Authors Note

As I continue my vegan journey, I’m sure I’ll encounter more accidentally vegan grocery store finds. In other words, this humble list of 5 is just the beginning!

When I start to get a list going again, I’ll be sure to jump back on here and talk about them.

Do you know of any accidentally vegan snacks that weren’t mentioned in this list? If you do, don’t hold out on us! Let us know in the comments section below so we can all snack together 🤪.
